Hello, I'm Theresa Johnson, recognized for my compassionate and attentive approach to those facing challenges. I was born and raised in the Philippines and I am fluent in Cebuano, Tagalog, and English. With 17 years in healthcare, my journey encompasses roles such as a staff nurse at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center for 5 years, transitioning to a neurosurgery clinical nurse specialist, then in cardiac surgery and later embracing a night shift general surgery nurse practitioner position at the University of California San Francisco.

Wearing various hats as a nurse practitioner, my experiences evolved during the COVID era, especially after my time in a New York City ICU at the pandemic's peak. This period intensified my commitment to aiding others. Shifting from intensive care to delving into the intricacies of the human brain became my newfound passion.

I firmly believe that individuals are here to lead their best lives, and nurturing good mental hygiene is pivotal to achieving that.

In my practice, I look for potential psychological influences from childhood to later years, approaching them from an interpersonal and attachment perspective. While I hold the capability to prescribe medications as a nurse practitioner, I equally value the significance of mindfulness in psychological healing and day-to-day decision-making.

About Mindy

Hi, I'm Mindy. I'm a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and I believe the best mental health care starts with feeling truly heard. My hope is that the moment you sit down with me, you'll feel a little less alone in whatever you're carrying.

My path here has been a long one, and every part of it shapes how I sit with people now. My healthcare journey began with the Peace Corps in Morocco, doing maternal and child health work in a rural village. I earned my nursing degree at Johns Hopkins while doing community work in Baltimore, spent six years as a pediatric nurse at UCSF, and served five years in the Air Force, including a deployment to Afghanistan. I left the military to care for my father through the end of his life — as both his daughter and his nurse — an experience that has stayed with me in everything I do. I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2025.

I came to mental health care because I kept meeting people who didn't feel heard — whose stories were being reduced to a symptom list. I work with teenagers and adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, grief, life transitions, and the weight that often comes with aging or illness. I have particular interests in end-of-life mental health, women's mental health, veterans and military families, and emerging research on psychedelics.

My approach is to listen, stay curious, and build a plan with you — not for you. Medication is part of what I can offer when it's the right tool, but it's never the whole story. I also believe in the quiet healing power of nature — a daily walk, time outside, a few minutes with the sky — and often weave that into the care we build together.

I see patients in person in Novato and via telehealth throughout California.
